I wish I could go back and tell my sick, struggling, 25-year-old self that everything will turn out wonderfully. She was in the thick of raising children and her body was shutting down.
I wish I could tell her that she’s more than capable of accomplishing the things on her heart, even as doctors couldn’t find answers to why she was so sick.
I would tell her she’s going to figure it out because she’s smart, intuitive, and faithful.
I wish I could tell her over and over that there’s not just one way to a wonderful life, and that she’s doing a great job.
I would say the same thing to my daughter, my best friends and I’m saying it to you.
I know you don’t often feel seen and appreciated as a homemaker, but I want you to know – from the depths of my soul – just how irreplaceable you are. You are intuitive and industrious. I know the work you are doing at home is the most valuable work you can do. If you can embrace and understand that, I can say without a doubt, there is no limit to what you and your family can achieve.
I can’t emphasize enough – our roles as parents are vital to the growth and well-being of our children. It may not always feel like the most rewarding or appreciated aspect of family life, but I promise you, what you are doing is invaluable.
As I’ve homeschooled for the past 15 years. I’ve been learning right alongside my children.
I’ve learned that success comes from so much more than the curriculum you chose. (It doesn’t matter if you use Teaching Textbooks or Saxon – I promise.)
What matters is that you do what you feel is right for your family.
I will repeat that until I’m blue in the face.
The education of our children is our responsibility as parents, and for good reason…
No one is more invested in the health and development of your child than you.
I am grateful to live in a place that protects educational freedoms, where we can take ownership for the dreams and visions we have for our family.
I think true freedom is having space to take ownership of your life; to instill in your children values that are most important to your family and to empower your child to live up to his God-given potential.
If I could have you over for lunch and a play date, I would listen to your discoveries and concerns with each child… you would tell me what you’ve tried and what you think might be best. I would be amazed at how bright and dedicated you are to your child’s development. I might share some things I have learned along the way. And most importantly, I would remind you that you’re doing a great job.
Because you are.
You are extraordinary!
I have been thinking a lot about you and what I can do to empower your call to homeschool.
(And this is totally for you even if you’re already homeschooling and want a boost of confidence!)
I really want to support you, and I do have some experience in this area, so I put together a Homeschool Checklist that has nothing to do with curriculum.
If you want a boost of confidence, go get your free homeschool checklist!
Don’t let all the curriculum choices overwhelm you.
You can do this.
You are intuitive and capable of figuring it out.
